history

The royal Bavarian spa town of Kissingen - it was only in 1883 that King Ludwig II gave the town the title "Bad" - received a "Letter and Mail Expedition" in 1825. As a result, the city was regularly accessible for paying passengers for the first time. Almost 20 years later (1844), passenger transport had become so important that mail and letter transport were separated. There was daily stagecoach traffic during the spa and bathing season.

Initially, the management of the post office was in the hotel " Viktoria " on the Kurpromenade, later it was moved to the neighboring hotel " Russischer Hof ". At the end of the 19th century, the stable was relocated to today's Theaterplatz, as the noise from the iron-studded carriage wheels on the cobblestones disturbed the quiet of the spa.

In 1908 the motor mail buses replaced the outdated mail coaches in Bad Kissingen as well. The buses were used in regional transport until the second half of the 20th century . The regular traffic between Bad Kissingen and Bad Brückenau was one of the oldest post bus routes in Bavaria .

On June 7, 1939, the Deutsche Reichspost , as in 24 other German health resorts, reintroduced regular mail coach traffic between Bad Kissingen and Bad Bocklet and Schloss Aschach . For this purpose, new stagecoaches were built at the Aug. Nowack AG bodywork in Bautzen . Because of the Second World War , the stagecoach traffic was soon stopped again. In 1950 the service was resumed. This line, which is still served daily in the summer season with the four-horse stagecoach from April to October, is still operated by Deutsche Post today as a tourist offer. It is the only remaining stagecoach service of the Deutsche Post.

The current carriage from 1967 is a modernized reconstruction of a " Berline with Coupé " of the Imperial Post Office. It was made in the "main workshops for motor mail vans Bamberg" (read on all door sills). The carriage officially began service on April 17, 1967.
