Francesco De Mura
Francesco De Mura (born April 21, 1696 in Naples , † August 19, 1782 ibid) was an Italian painter between Baroque and Classicism in Naples.
Life dates
In 1709 he began his training with Domenico Viola in Naples . He later moved to Francesco Solimena , where he remained as his most important student and collaborator until 1730. In 1728 he married Anna d'Ebrù.
He is considered one of the best decorative painters and colorists of the 18th century in Naples, whose painting need not fear comparison with Tiepolo . De Mura left numerous frescoes and panel paintings in Neapolitan churches and palaces . He also worked in Caiazzo, Capua , Montecassino , Salerno , Foggia and Turin . The earliest painting attributed to him, “The Crucified” for the Chiesa di San Girolamo alle Monache in Naples, dates from 1713. While the numerous frescoes and panel paintings from the period between 1730 and 1730 clearly reveal the influence of Solimena, he later presented himself with an individual one Style that unites the artistic influences of its era.
In 1741 he was appointed to the royal court of Turin to paint frescoes on mythological subjects in the Palazzo Reale . During this time he maintained close contact with the architects Filippo Juvara and Benedetto Alfieri as well as with the painter Corrado Giaquinto , from whom he received important artistic impulses. In 1743 he went back to Naples, where he was appointed court painter to the Bourbon kings. Two of his students in Naples were Elia Interguglielmi and Pietro Bardellino .
