Poul Ströyer , originally Poul Strøyer (born July 13, 1923 in Denmark , † November 20, 1996 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish artist , illustrator and caricaturist .

life and work

Poul Ströyer started drawing and painting at the age of 16. In 1946 he came to Sweden. Poul Ströyer often drew sharp, political caricatures. His style was simple but accurate. Ströyer was also a skilled painter and illustrator.

1951–57 he worked for the Stockholm daily newspaper Stockholms-Tidningen , where his colleague Ewert Karlsson (1918–2004) was also employed. Then he went to the national Dagens Nyheter . There, until his death in 1996, he drew his “little men” in daily political events almost every day. These were published annually as Ströyer's dagbok (Ströyer's diary). The example here in the article from 1982 shows Olof Palme in front of the empty table, which he found after his time in the opposition, exclaiming: “Tischlein deck 'dich”.

Poul Ströyer also made a name for himself as an illustrator of his own children's books and children's books by others, where he also worked with the children's book author Lennart Hellsing . Ströyer has been honored with many domestic and foreign awards for his work. He is represented in many museums.
