The Powell Channel is a narrow strait off the Fallières coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . In Marguerite Bay it is a navigable passage between Millerand Island in the west and the Debenham Islands to the east .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1972 after Lieutenant John Martin Powell (* 1944) of the Royal Navy , who surveyed the canal in 1972.
The Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica also contains a strait with the name Paso Martin at the coordinates 68 ° 8 ′ S , 67 ° 6 ′ W with an almost identical description .
