The power snack ( high- energy bar), also known as an energy bar, power bar, or sports bar , is usually a high-calorie food supplement that can be obtained in health food stores , sports shops or supermarkets.

Essentially, these are high- sugar and high-fat bars which, although they can be a useful dietary supplement for athletes , lead to overeating and thus obesity in everyday life .

The first Power Bar was launched for the Pillsbury Company by Robert Muller, the inventor of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) concept . The bars with the name “Space Food Sticks” are a replica of the first solid food that was consumed by an astronaut in space. These were small cubes of dried bananas that Scott Carpenter consumed on board the Aurora 7 in 1962 .
