Presidential election in Kiribati 2016
The presidential election in Kiribati 2016 took place on March 9, 2016 following the parliamentary elections in Kiribati 2015–16 held on December 30, 2015 and January 7, 2016 for the eleventh Maneaba ni Maungatabu for the 2016–2019 term.
Candidates
The candidates were Taneti Mamau from the Tobwaan Kiribati Party (TKP), Rimeta Beniamina from the United Coalition Party ( Karikirakean Te I-Kiribati , KTK), but nominated by The Pillars of Truth ( Boutokaan Te Koaua , BTK), and Tianeti Ioane , also from The Pillars of Truth party.

The turnout in the 23 constituencies was around 68% of the approximately 40,000 registered voters.
Election result
Taneti Mamau from Onotoa became the new president with around 60% of the vote. He beat the main opponent Rimeta Beniamina, who was able to unite around 38.6% of the vote. Tianeti Ioane received just under 1.5%.
