Presidential elections in Romania 2000

Ion Iliescu

The 2000 Romanian presidential elections took place on November 26th and December 10th, 2000. In the first round, Ion Iliescu from the Social Democratic Party of Romania (PDSR, today PSD ) and Corneliu Vadim Tudor from the extremist Greater Romania Party received the most votes. In the runoff election of Iliescu against Tudor, Iliescu received two thirds of the votes cast and thus became President of Romania .
