The 2004 presidential elections in Romania took place on November 28 and December 12, 2004. In the first round, Adrian Năstase from the Social Democratic Party ( PSD ) and Traian Băsescu from the Alliance for Justice and Truth - consisting of the National Liberal Party and the Democratic Party - received the most votes. In the runoff election, Băsescu received 51.23% of the vote; Nastase received 48.77%. Băsescu thus became President of Romania .
