Prüßberg (also Prüssberg ) is a district of the municipality of Michelau in the Steigerwald in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt .

Geographical location

Prüßberg is relatively centrally located in the Michelau municipality. The so-called Heinachshof can be found in the northeast , and the community-free area of the Hundelshausen state forest extends here . Neuhausen rises to the east . The community-free areas of Wustvieler Forst and Vollburg now connect to the south . Michelau itself is to the southwest, while the Michelau district of Hundelshausen can be found in the northwest .

history

The village appears in the sources relatively late. Only in 1298 was a "monte dicto Brusteberg" (Latin mountain, called Brusteberg) mentioned. The name probably goes back to a vineyard and refers to medieval viticulture on the slopes of the Steigerwald . In the 16th century the village received a small branch chapel , which was decorated with an altar from the Riemenschneider area .

In the 19th century, a rich forester's wife had a contemporary altar made; the carpenter was allowed to remove the old altar and take it with him. Its whereabouts are unclear. Like the altar, the church itself fared later. It was torn down and from then on the Prüßbergers had to attend church services in the distant Dingolshausen . Only in 1870 were the residents allowed to bury their dead in nearby Michelau. In 1976 the village received a new church.

Prüßberg had been an independent municipality in the Kingdom of Bavaria since the 19th century , after its dissolution it remained part of the Gerolzhofen district . The village suffered a total of seven deaths in the First World War, while the Second World War claimed ten dead and four missing. Today Prüßberg is part of the large community of Michelau in the Steigerwald in the district of Schweinfurt.

Attractions

Due to its small size, the village has only a few architectural monuments. After the church was demolished, only two wayside shrines from the 19th century have survived, which were set up on the outskirts. A stick depicting the fourteen helpers in need comes from 1844 . Perhaps the wayside shrine goes back to an older one that was donated after the Thirty Years War . A crucifix can be found on the way towards Michelau.
