The beautiful lily ( Lilium speciosum ) is a species from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ) in the oriental section .
description
The beautiful lily reaches a height of 60 cm to 180 cm and is up to 25 cm wide. The onions are round and reach a diameter of about 6 cm. They are covered with white lanceolate scales.
The stem is hard, smooth and straight. The leaves are lanceolate to spoon-shaped, between 7 and 18 cm long and 1 to 5 cm wide. They are distributed over the stem. The leaves are parallel-veined, towards the edge papillose .
The plant blooms from July to September with 1 to 5-in culture also up to 15- Turkic- shaped flowers. These are nodding in a panicle and have a sweet smell, comparable to honey . The flowers consist of six strongly bent back petals. These are divided into three crown- and three sepals which look very similar, so a Perigon form. The color of the flowers varies from white to dark pink, with dark purple spots and purple papillae . The anthers and pollen are purple-brown, the filaments green and the stamens sticking out. The individual flowers reach a diameter of 10 cm to 15 cm.
The seeds ripen from October to November and germinate with a delay - hypogeanic after a cold-warm cycle.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
distribution
The plant is originally endemic to Kyushu and Shikoku in Japan . However, it also occurs in Taiwan and in the People's Republic of China .
The beautiful lily grows in wet meadows or damp places on the edges of forests. The onions can survive temperatures as low as −5 ° C in the frozen ground .
