Prakob Hutasingh

Prakob Hutasingh ( Thai ประกอบ หุ ตะ สิงห์ , RTGS Prakop Hutasing , also written Hutasingha ; * February 5, 1912 in Bangkok ; † July 28, 1994 ) was a Thai lawyer and politician. From 1967 to 1972 he was President of the Supreme Court of Thailand, 1973–74 Minister of Justice, 1974–75 Deputy Prime Minister and from 1975 a member of the Privy Council .

Life

Prakob studied until 1930 at the Law School of the Ministry of Justice in Bangkok. He then continued his studies in Germany continued and completed his doctorate in 1937 at the University of Jena with a dissertation on the Thai Constitution of 1932 to the Dr. jur. After returning to Thailand in 1940 he earned a Bachelor of Law from the newly founded Thammasat University .

Prakob was appointed judge in 1941. In 1955 he was promoted to chief judge at the Court of Appeal. In 1967 he was appointed President of the Supreme Court to succeed Sanya Dharmasakti .

After the popular uprising in October 1973 , which ended the longstanding military rule, Prakob became a member of the government. He was Minister of Justice in the first cabinet of the civilian Prime Minister Sanya Dharmasakti. After a government reshuffle in May 1974, he took over the post of Deputy Prime Minister. After a new constitution was enacted and free elections were held, the transitional government resigned in February 1975. King Bhumibol Adulyadej appointed Prakob to his Privy Council a month later, of which he was a member until his death.

Prakob received various orders and decorations , including the Grand Cross of the Order of Chula Chom Klao and the Grand Cordon of the White Elephant Order and the Order of the Crown of Thailand .
