Constantin Preben Philipsen (born January 18, 1910 in Copenhagen , † September 21, 2005 in Klampenborg ) was a Danish film producer .

Life

Philipsen was the son of the Danish film pioneer Constantin Philipsen , the founder of Rialto Film . On April 1, 1950, he founded together with the German film salesman Waldfried Barthel under the register no. 1944 in Frankfurt am Main a film distributor, which was called Constantin Filmverleih GmbH from the common first name of father and son Philipsen .

Due to his good contacts with the American film company United Artists , he made it possible for Constantin Filmverleih to bring United Artists films exclusively to German film theaters. It all started in 1950 with Charlie Chaplin's gold rush .

Philipsen served as President of Constantin for five years. After a foreign partner was no longer compulsory in Germany, Philipsen left Constantin in 1955. He then turned back to Rialto Film Preben Philipsen A / S, which his father had founded. With her he produced several Scandinavian and German films and maintained a close relationship with Constantin Filmverleih.

In 1959 he acquired the rights to two novels by Edgar Wallace . On behalf of Constantin Film Munich, he produced The Frog with the Mask and the Red Circle for Prisma film distribution . With these German-Danish productions, the era of the successful Edgar Wallace films began .

From Penelope Wallace , the daughter of the late writer, he bought the exclusive rights to the entire Edgar Wallace novels. While filming Die Gang des Schreckens , he founded Rialto Film Preben Philipsen Filmproduktion- und Filmvertriebs GmbH on August 18, 1960 in Frankfurt am Main with share capital of DM 20,000. The managing directors were Philipsen and Franz Sulley.

On November 1, 1960 he appointed Horst Wendlandt as head of production at Prisma Verleihe, which Constantin had reverted to Philipsen. When Prisma Verleih ceased its activities in 1961, he made Wendlandt the successor to Horst Beck as production manager for Rialto Film. In the same year Wendlandt became co-partner and, as successor to Sulley, managing director alongside Philipsen. In 1962 the company's headquarters were relocated to West Berlin .

Compared to Wendlandt, Philipsen took a back seat over the years. On February 4, 1976 the Federal Gazette published that Preben Philipsen left the company Rialto Film Preben Philipsen Berlin / West and that with Rialto Film Preben Philipsen GmbH. & Co. KG Berlin / West its power of attorney has expired.
