List of monuments in Opole

This list includes the monuments, statues, fountains, statues, cenotaphs and sculptures in the public space of today's Polish city of Opole .

Some of them have been removed, relocated, remodeled or destroyed from their original location over time.

Tomb of Johann I. (Opole) Location: University          hill Erected: 14th century   Johann I, Duke of Opole, builder of the Piast Castle

Wayside shrine Location: University hill at the Bergelkirche          Erected: 1609

Statue of St. Sebastian Location: ul. Grundwaldzka 11          Erected: 17th century   The monument once stood on a small chapel on the site of today's Ostbahnhof. Today it stands on a new pedestal at the Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Opole

Marian column Location: at the University of Opole          Erected: 1702

Statue of St. John Nepomuk Location: Plac Wolnosci - In front of the Franciscan monastery          Erected: 1711   The statue once stood in front of the Hotel Bristol on Malapanerstrasse (ul. Ozimska).

Statue of St. John Nepomuk Location: On the university campus at ul.Oleska          Erected: 1720   The statue was erected in its current location in 1998. Before that she was in other places

Statue of St. John Nepomuk in Oppeln-Czarnowanz Location: Czarnowanz - cemetery          Erected: 1772

Gravestone Helena Catharina von Francken Location: Park at Collegium Maius          Erected: 1797

Obelisk Location: at the University of Opole          Erected: 19th century   On the obelisk is u. a. an ouroboros .

Statue of St. John Nepomuk Location: At the Church of St. Peter and Paul          Erected: 19th century   The statue once stood on the Pascheke on the Oder Bridge, where the Hotel Piast is now located at ul. Piastowska. In 1855 the statue was moved to the other side of the bridge in the Oder suburb at the Century Bridge (today Most Piastowska). After the bridge was destroyed in World War II, the statue initially remained undamaged in its place. In the 1950s, the Nepomuk statue was moved to its current location in front of the St. Peter and Paul Church.

Statue of Saint Christopher Location: University          hill Erected: 1867   Saint Christopher is the patron saint of travelers and drivers. The statue was created by Carl Kern in Kluczbork in 1867 . It originally stood in front of the main entrance to Koppitz Castle in Koppitz . The monument was slightly damaged during World War II. After extensive renovations, the monument was on October 4, 2005 at the University hill on the bridge between the Collegium Minus and the Collegium Maius set

Summer sculpture Location: at the University of Opole, next to the Bergelkirche          Erected: 1850   one of the sculptures of the four seasons by Hartmann

Autumn sculpture Location: at the University of Opole, next to the Bergelkirche          Erected: 1850   one of the sculptures of the four seasons by Hartmann

Winter sculpture Location: at the University of Opole, next to the Bergelkirche          Erected: 1850   one of the sculptures of the four seasons by Hartmann

Juno statue Location: Schlosspark          Erected: 1867   The Juno statue was designed for the Paris World's Fair in 1867. It was initially in front of the main post office , then in 1903 it was placed in front of the Piast Castle in the castle park. In 1928 the memorial was moved again to a green area on the southern side of the Pascheke . The statue was destroyed in World War II. The base is still in the Nadodrzański Park today The statue was reconstructed in 2017.

Kaiser Wilhelm Monument Location: in front of the government building on Government Square (today Plac Wolności )          Erected: 1891   Still picture 1890 by sculptor Max Wiese ; Destroyed in 1945

Helmuth-von-Moltke monument Location: Malapanerstraße in front of Kaserne II. (Today: Ulica Ozimska )          Erected: 1899   Unveiled September 30, 1899; Height 1.15 m; Damage to the monument during the French occupation in 1922; presumably melted down after 1941

Crossroads Location: ul Nyska          Erected: 1899   Inscription: Praise be to Jesus Christ - Donated by Caroline Laqua

Ceres Fountain Location: Plac Ignacego Daszyńskiego (Friedrichsplatz)          Erected: 1907   Statue of the goddess Ceres (Roman goddess of the field crop and protector of the family), work of the sculptor Edmund Gomansky , until 1945 with a canopy made of copper

Bismarck monument Location: at the train station          Erected: 1911   The memorial created by the sculptor Robert Bednorz was unveiled on August 20, 1911. On the 3 m high stele there was a portrait relief by Bismarck. After 1945 the monument was removed except for the stone balustrade. Today there are telephone booths here.

Monument to Kaiser Wilhelm II. Location: Bolkoinsel          Erected: 1913   The monument was made of one stone and contained a bronze medal with the portrait of the emperor. This was removed after 1945. The stone is still in place today.

Memorial to Johanna von Schaffgotsch Location: at the University of Opole, on Plac Kopernika          Erected:     known as the "Silesian Cinderella", founder of numerous orphanages and churches

Memorial for the fallen of the First World War in Oppeln-Czarnowanz Location: pl. Klasztorny          Built: 1920   Memorial for the fallen in the villages of Czarnowanz, Borrek, Krzanowitz, Horst and Frauendorf

Monument to the Fallen Location: ul.Ozimska          Erected: 1924   Memorial to the fallen soldiers of Infantry Regiment No. 63 in Opole, work of the sculptor Thomas Myrtek , partially preserved

Fallen memorial at Königlich Neudorf Location: Plac Koscielny          Erected: 1925   The monument was on the square north of the Roman Catholic. Church in the Opole district of Königlich Neudorf ( Polish: Nowa Wieś Królewska ). It was circular in plan. The monument no longer exists today.

Vogtsdorf Fallen Memorial Location: ul.Wyszomirskiego Bogumiła          Erected: around 1925   The memorial was erected after the First World War for the fallen soldiers of the village Vogtsdorf ( Polish: Wójtowa Wieś ). After the 2nd World War the inscriptions were plastered. At the beginning of the 1990s, the inscriptions were made visible again and the memorial was supplemented with the names of the villagers who died in World War II.

Monument to the Fallen Groschowitz Location: ul.Buhla Franciszka Józefa          Erected: 1922   In 1946 the memorial was removed.

Landjäger memorial Location: ul.Piastowska          Erected: 1926   The monument was erected in front of the old Piast Castle in 1926. After this was torn down, the monument was put up again a few meters to the south. After the Second World War, the memorial inscriptions were removed. A few years later the base was also removed.

Memorial stone for Erich Schmidt Location: Bolkoinsel          Erected: 1927   The stone no longer exists today.

Monument to the Fallen Location: Corner of Książąt Opolskich and Konopnickiej Street          Erected: 1928   Memorial to the soldiers of the 23rd Reserve Infantry Regiment of the First World War , destroyed in the Second World War.

Monument to the fallen of the post office :           Erected: 1930   Memorial for the employees of the Opole postal administration who died in World War I , work of the sculptor Felix Kupsch

Memorial to the fallen of the First World War in Opole-Goslawitz Location: Goslawitz - Ulica Wiejska          Erected: 1933   The memorial was erected in 1933 in honor of the 72 villagers who died in the First World War. In 1976 it was dismantled and stored in a square near the church. In 2010 it was able to be restored through the initiative of the DFK Goslawitz.

Children's sculptures Location: at the Pfennigbrücke / Mühlgraben         Erected: (before 1935)   Work by the sculptor Thomas Myrtek , originally five sculptures, two have been lost

Statue of Frederick the Great Location: on the south side of Oppelner Ring , in front of the town hall         Erected: 1936   Height of the monument: 2.95 m; Melted down in 1945

Monument to Albert Leo Schlageter Location: Bridge over the Mühlgraben at ul.Korfantego Wojciecha          Erected: 1938

Memorial to fallen soldiers of the Red Arms in the Battle of Opole Location: Soviet cemetery at ul.Katowicka          Erected: 1947

Monument to Józef Lompa (Upper Silesian poet and journalist) Location: ul.Edmunda Osmańczyka, in front of the Old High School          Erected: 1965

Monument to Adam Mickiewicz Location: ul.Katowicka, in front of the Peter and Paul Church          Erected: 1965   set up for the 20th anniversary of the liberation of Opole

Opole Nike Location: Plac Wolnosci          Erected: 1970   in honor of the fighters for Polishism in the Opole region, renovated in 2011

Memorial stone for the 30th anniversary of the Polish People's Army Location: ul.Niemondlinska          Erected: 1973

Monument to Maria Konopnicka Location: ul.Ludwika Waryńskiego          Erected: 1984

Memorial cross for soldiers who died in a car accident in 1985 Location: Railway underpass at ul.Krapkowicka Opole-Szczepanowice          Erected: 1991   In 1985 there was a serious accident at the railway underpass at ul. Krapkowicka in Opole-Szczepanowice. Several soldiers died in the process.

Monument of the former synagogue Location: ul Piastowski (Hafenstrasse)          Erected: 1998   Memorial to the synagogue that was destroyed in 1938; today there is a school building in its place.

Monument "In Defense of the Opole Voivodeship" Location: Plac Wolnosci          Erected: 2000   The base has the shape of a voivodeship map.

Monument to Duke Johann the Good Location: in front of the main entrance of the Opole University - ul.Oleska          Erected: 2000

Damy Pasiecznej Monument Location: Behind the Polish Radio          building Erected: July 10, 2002   set up for the 5th anniversary of the Oder floods

Promenade of the Stars of the Polish Song Location: on the eastern side of the Opole ring.         Erected: May 28, 2004

Dominican column Location: University hill at Collegium Maius          Erected: 2006   4.2 m high column, which reminds of the time of the Dominicans in Opole (1295–1811).

Memorial stone for the anti-communist underground Location: Plac Wolnosci          Erected: 2006

Memorial plaque for Pope John Paul II. Location: University          hill Erected: 2006   Co-founder and honorary doctor of the University of Opole ; The monument was unveiled on April 2, 2006 at 9:37 p.m., the time of Pope John Paul II's death.

Statue of Heracles Location: Opole University at Collegium Maius          Erected: 2016

Memorial for the 1956 uprising in Hungary Location: Green area between Mühlgraben and ulica Powolnego          Erected: 2016   The wooden obelisk was erected for the 60th anniversary of the Hungarian uprising.

Horse trough Location: Oppelner Ring          Established: 2017   The horse trough was one at today's Plac Wolnosci. On the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the city of Opole, it was reconstructed and placed on the ring.

Equestrian statue of Prince Casimir I of Opole Location: Opole Ring          Erected: 2018   The monument to Casimir I of Opole was commissioned to mark the 800th anniversary of the city of Opole. Only a year later could it be erected on the southern side of the ring.
