Chmiellowitz ( Polish: Chmielowice ) is a district of the city of Opole . Until 2016, the Upper Silesian village was part of the Comprachtschütz municipality in the Powiat Opolski (Opole district).

Geographical location

Chmiellowitz is located three kilometers northeast of the former municipality seat Comprachtschütz and eight kilometers southwest of the district town and voivodeship capital Opole ( Opole ). In the north, the road runs Droga wojewódzka 459 . The Olszanka runs east of the village and the Prószkowski Potok runs to the west .

Neighboring towns of Chmiellowitz are in the north Zirkowitz ( Żerkowice ), in the east the Oppelner districts Sczepanowitz ( Szczepanowice ) and Vogtsdorf ( Wójtowa Wieś ), in the south Dziekanstwo ( Dziekaństwo ) and in the southwest Rothhaus ( Osiny ).

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 146 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 27 for Poland. Chmiellowitz remained with the German Empire. In 1933 there were 530 inhabitants. On March 8, 1934, the place was renamed Hopfental . In 1939 the place had 727 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Opole .

In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration and was renamed Chmielowice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Opolski . On December 1, 2009, the place was also given the official German place name Chmiellowitz . On January 1, 2017, Chmiellowitz was incorporated into the city of Opole.

Attractions

  • The Anna-selbdritt-Kirche was built between 1984 and 1990. The bell tower was completed in 1993.
