Zaodrze (dt. Odervorstadt) is a district of the independent city of Opole in the Opole Voivodeship .

location

The district is located in the western part of the city of Opole. The district is separated from the city center by the Oder . Furthermore, the flood canal flows through the Odervorstadt. Zaodrze borders on the districts of Półwieś and Szczepanowice . The three main streets ul. Niemodlińska, ul. Wrocławska and ul. Prószkówska run through the Oder suburb.

history

Until the 19th century, the first buildings on the western side of the Oder were only farms and the now-defunct Kreuzkirche. It was a wooden church that was demolished in 1811. It was located on today's Plac Piłsudskiego. The former trade route Neisse - Breslau also ran along this route .

Gradual development began at the end of the 19th century. In 1840 there were 51 houses in the Oder suburb. The Breslauer Platz (today Plac Piłsudskiego), whereby several Wilhelminian-era buildings were built, was laid out. These were partially destroyed in the Second World War. Only one of them has survived today.

In the 1960s and 1970s, the block development that still stands today was built in Zaordze.

In the district there are several kindergartens, two elementary schools, a grammar school as well as two secondary schools and the teacher training college. The Westbahnhof is also located here.
