Þórir Ólafsson (born November 28, 1979 in Selfoss ) is a former Icelandic handball player .

Career

The 1.85 meter tall and 78 kilogram right winger played for UMF Selfoss between 1999 and 2002 and then for Haukar Hafnarfjörður . With Haukar he won the Icelandic championship in 2003, 2004 and 2005. From 2005 he was under contract with the German Bundesliga club TuS N-Lübbecke . From 2011 he played for the Polish top club KS Kielce , with whom he won the championship and the cup in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Þórir Ólafsson ran for UMF Stjarnan in the 2014/15 season , where he also worked as an assistant coach. He then returned to UMF Selfoss. He now works as an assistant trainer at Selfoss.

Þórir Ólafsson was in the squad of the Icelandic national team 112 times , scoring 277 goals. With the Icelandic selection, he took part in the 2006 European Championship , the 2011 World Championship , the 2012 European Championship , the 2013 World Championship and the 2014 European Championship .
