Felix Kupsch

Albert Felix Kupsch (born September 20, 1883 in Berlin ; † 1969 there ) was a German sculptor .

Life

After a practical apprenticeship as a sculptor, Felix Kupsch worked as an employee in the studios of Otto Stichling and Franz Metzner . He took up studies at the Berlin Academy of the Arts , where he was supported by August Gaul and Louis Tuaillon . He later taught building sculpture as a professor at the Berlin School of Arts and Crafts . From December 1934 to April 1941 he participated in the studio community in Klosterstrasse , in which Käthe Kollwitz and Herbert Tucholski also worked. For the State Opera Unter den Linden , which was rebuilt in 1942 after an air raid , Kupsch created four atlases in the foyer .

  • around 1925: Sculptures of folk song and ceremony (shell limestone) in the courtyard of the building group Am Treptower Park 55–57 / Leiblstrasse 19–21
  • around 1925: Sculptures Postillon and Postflieger on the facade of Post Office 36 in Berlin-Kreuzberg , Skalitzer Strasse 84–92
  • around 1928: Sculptures of St. Monika and St. Augustine above the portal of the entrance hall of the Catholic. Church of St. Augustine in Berlin, Dänenstrasse 17/18
  • 1928: Reliefs made of iron clinker ceramics at the Brick Expressionist post office in Breslau (scenes from life in Wroclaw, postilion heads from different centuries, building slogan and portal framing, made by the Ullersdorfer Werke, Nieder Ullersdorf , Sorau district) (architecture by Post Building Councilor Lothar Neumann )
  • around 1929: Corner figures of the four apostles on the tower and the portal with porch at the Kreuzkirche in Berlin, Hohenzollerndamm 130a
    The exterior of the church is considered the highlight of Expressionist brick architecture, another part of the sculptural jewelry comes from Max Esser .
  • Collaboration on four sculptures in the bear settlement in Berlin-Tempelhof
  • 1930: Cenotaph for the officers of the Oberpostdirektion Opole in Opole who died in the First World War
  • 1932: Medal "Honorary gift from the Berliner Sängerverein e. V. Caecilia Melodia ”with the portrait of the music director Max Eschke
  • 1933: Cenotaph for the fallen from the flak cartillery (bronze) in the Lankwitz barracks in front of the Emmich block in Berlin (destroyed, Neuguss since 1957 at the Steglitz cemetery )
  • around 1936: ceramic jewelry on the pulpit of the Lindenkirche in Berlin-Wilmersdorf , Homburger Strasse 40–48
  • 1935: Sculpture load carrier (sandstone) on the facade of the Anne Frank elementary school in Berlin-Moabit , Paulstrasse
  • 1942: Atlases in the foyer of the State Opera, removed during the reconstruction around 1955.
