Kopice ( German Koppitz , 1936-1945 Schwarzengrund ) is a village in the municipality of Grodków in the powiat Brzeski in the Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location

The street village Kolnica is located in the west of the historical region of Upper Silesia in the border area to Lower Silesia . Kopice located about seven kilometers southeast of the parish seat Grodków , about 36 kilometers south of the county seat Brzeg ( Brieg ) and about 35 kilometers west of the voivodship Opole.

Kopice lies in the Nizina Śląska (Silesian Plain) within the Dolina Nysy Kłodzkiej (Glatzer Neisse Valley) . Kopice is located on the Stara Struga , a left tributary of the Glatzer Neisse . The Nysa Kłodzka ( Glatzer Neisse ) flows east of the village . The provincial road Droga wojewódzka 385 runs through the village .

The manor "Copitz" was first mentioned in a document in 1289 with the Schulzen Richwin. 1303-04 it is included in the "Registrum Wratislaviense". It initially belonged to the Duchy of Breslau and after its division in 1311 to the Duchy of Brieg . In 1343 it was acquired by the city of Grottkau, with whom it came a year later to the episcopal principality of Neisse ( diocese ), which had been a fiefdom of the crown of Bohemia since 1342 . In 1371 the place was mentioned as Coppicz . In 1425 "Coppitz" was one of the villages that only had to pay the episcopal Vierdung . In 1579 the owner of the Vorwerk was a Mrs. Skopp. A separate parish of the Koppitz manor is documented for the first time in 1580.

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Koppitz fell to Prussia together with the Principality of Neisse . In 1751 Koppitz was acquired by the noble Silesian family von Sierstorpff.

Until the secularization in 1810 it remained connected with the diocese of Neisse. After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community of Koppitz belonged to the district of Grottkau in the administrative district of Opole from 1816 . In 1845 there was a Catholic parish church, a Catholic school, a castle, two outbuildings, a brewery, a distillery, a brick factory and 104 other houses in the village. In the same year, 687 people lived in Koppitz, 13 of them Protestants. The Vorwerk Waldau had 40 inhabitants in 1845. In 1855, 813 people lived in the village. In 1859 a Catholic school was established in the village. In the same year Feodor von Francken-Sierstorpff sold Koppitz to the mining industrialist Hans-Ulrich von Schaffgotsch . In 1865 there were eleven farmers, 42 gardeners and 18 cottagers as well as an inn, two mills and two schools. The two-class Catholic school was attended by 113 students in the same year. In 1874 the district of Koppitz was founded, which consisted of the rural communities of Koppitz, Märzdorf and Tiefensee and the estate districts of Koppitz, Nieder Märzdorf and Ober Märzdorf. The first head of office was the manor owner and Kgl. Chamberlain Count von Schaffgotsch. In 1885 Koppitz had 805 inhabitants.

In 1933 there were 1,021 people in Koppitz. On July 22, 1936, the place was renamed Schwarzengrund . In 1939 the village of Schwarzengrund had 1,314 inhabitants.

As a result of the Second World War, Schwarzengrund was placed under Polish administration in 1945, renamed Kopice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. The German population was largely expelled . In 1950 it was incorporated into the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999, the place came to the newly founded powiat Brzeski ( Brieg district ) within the Gmina Grodków .

  • The Koppitz castle was in 1859 by the family Schaffgotsch acquired and developed in eclectic style. After a fire on October 7, 1956, the building gradually fell into disrepair. The ruin has been a listed building since 1964.
  • To the north of the castle are the former farm buildings from the 19th century.
  • Landscape park, u. a. with neo-Gothic and Chinese pavilions, a temple of Sybil and a chapel from 1912.
  • The Catholic parish church Heilig Kreuz was built between 1802 and 1822 in the classicism style. It was built on the site of a previous building, first mentioned in 1588 and dedicated to St. Hedwig was consecrated. In 1954 the building was listed as a historical monument.
  • The neoclassical mausoleum of the Schaffgotsch family was built in the second half of the 19th century. It has been a listed building since 1957.
  • Rectory from 1807 with a crooked roof .
  • The former Protestant cemetery was laid out in 1822.
