It was the ancestral seat of the later Breslau patrician family Bank . The brothers Hanko († 1376), Heinz / Heinrich († 1372) and Kunz Bancke are documented for 1363/64 , who at that time led a dispute over property before the arbitral tribunal. You were probably free estate owners in Bankau . Kunz / Kunze Banke is still occupied for the year 1364 in Bankau. During the Reformation in 1534 the first Protestant pastor was employed in Bankau.

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Bankau and most of Silesia fell to Prussia .

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community of Bankau belonged to the district of Brieg in the administrative district of Breslau from 1816 . In 1845 there was a Protestant parish church, a Protestant school and 77 other houses in the village. In the same year 449 people lived in Bankau, 27 of them Catholic. In 1874 the district of Zindel was founded, which consisted of the rural communities of Bankau and Zindel and the Hochwald estate. In 1885 Bankau had 500 inhabitants.

In 1933 Bankau had 472 and in 1939 512 inhabitants. Until the end of the war in 1945, the place belonged to the district of Brieg .
