Preetz is a district of the municipality of Lancken-Granitz in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on the island of Rügen .

Preetz is located south of Lancken-Granitz. A little to the west of the village is the district of Burtevitz , north of Zarnekow . From Burtevitz a small subordinate road leads through Preetz, which then continues to the east in the direction of Seedorf . After Seedorf itself, however, there is only a bridge over the Lancker Bek that can only be crossed by pedestrians and cyclists , so that Preetz is out of the way of traffic.

The Neuensiener See lies northeast of Preetz .

history

The name of the place comes from the Slavic name Porece , which means place on the brook, river . Preetz was a small cul-de-sac village , the layout of which has changed today.

In the 14th century, half of the town was pledged to Stralsund and later belonged to the Stralsund Holy Spirit Monastery. The other part of the village was used in the 15th century to set up a vicarie at the Sankt Andreas Church in Lancken. During the 16th and 17th centuries, the Putbus house and the Sundischen , meaning the Stralsunders, were named as the owners of the place. At the end of the 17th century the Putbus family came into possession of the share of the Stralsund Holy Spirit Monastery.

Before being incorporated into Lancken-Granitz, Preetz belonged to the community of Seedorf.
