The Prussian General Staff Map is a map series . It was created between 1816 and 1847. Due to the Congress of Vienna , an overview of the new national territory was needed.

For the eastern part of Prussia , the scale 1: 100,000 was chosen. For the western part, the scale 1: 86.400 was used based on the maps by Cassini , Le Coq and von Ferraris . The maps do not have any height information and show terrain shapes with slope hatches.

The map series comprises 85 map images with a format of 41 cm × 32 cm. It was supplemented by a “statistical table” with information on areas and population figures based on a survey from 1837. The map series was not published. The map of the German Empire is based on the Prussian General Staff Map .

Excerpts from the cards play a role in local research and family research or serve as decoration for printed works, see Expedition Heimat .
