The map of the German Empire is a topographic map series for the German Empire on a scale of 1: 100,000.
description
The map series was created after a joint decision of the German states of Prussia , Bavaria , Saxony and Württemberg on March 4, 1878, which provided for a uniform design. The scale was based on the Prussian general staff map.
The map series was completed in 1909 for the entire Reich territory and was also known as the "General Staff Map". It was engraved in one color in copper . Waters were colored blue. The result was 674 sheets, each 30 minutes long and 15 minutes wide (about 1,000 km²) in the format 35 × 28 cm.
The grid extends over 35 leaves from west to east and over 32 leaves from north to south.
Distinction
This set of maps is to be distinguished from the map of the German Empire on a scale of 1: 500,000 by Carl Vogel (1828–1897), which was published by Perthes in about 27 color lithographed sheets from 1893 to the end of the Second World War .
