Priit Aimla (born April 19, 1941 in Võru ) is an Estonian writer , playwright and humorist.

Life

Aimla graduated from high school in Paide in 1959 and studied theoretical physics at the University of Tartu from 1960 to 1962 and 1965-1966 , later (1968/1969) a year of distance learning English. In the intervening time, he completed his military service. From 1965 to 1968 he worked in the tourism industry and, at the same time, as a sports correspondent for the Edasi newspaper . Since 1968 he was editor for entertainment programs at Eesti Raadio .

Priit Aimla was a signatory to the Letter of Forty in 1980 and has been a member of the Estonian Writers' Union since 1983 . From 1992 to 1999 he was a member of the Riigikogu for two terms .

Aimla's first radio play was broadcast in 1967 and his first humoresque was printed in 1968. With his humoresques, which also included satires critical of totalitarianism and shone with puns and lively dialogues, he very quickly became one of the leading representatives of Estonian literature in this field. A colleague and critic described him as "the most professional and productive writer in our diversion industry".

Aimla has also translated Russian humoresques into Estonian. a. Daniil Charms .
