Prima TV was started in December 1997 as an advertising-financed private television broadcaster in Romania and until December 2013 belonged to ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG . The station reaches 87 percent of the Romanian urban population and is one of the four most successful television stations in the country.

In 2008, the appearance of Prima TV was adapted to the appearance of the German TV broadcaster ProSieben . In addition, since 2008 Prima TV has been using the claim “We love to entertain you”, which has been on ProSieben since 2003 . In 2015 the slogan was changed to “Crede în tine!” (“Believe in yourself”).

The program consists of feature films, series, documentaries and reality shows, as well as the Romanian news program Focus .

In 2017, Prima TV was the 6th most popular audience in Romania with an average of 116,000 viewers a day.
