Dane Šijan ( Serbian - Cyrillic Дане Шијан ; born February 5, 1977 in Šabac , Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian handball goalkeeper . He is 1.95 m tall and weighs 120 kg.
Šijan, who plays for Mors-Thy Håndbold and plays for the Serbian national team, always plays as a goalkeeper .
Dane Šijan began playing handball at the top domestic club Metaloplastika Šabac , where he finally made his debut in the Serbian first division. There he was always one of the top players in the Serbian league; In 1997, however, he was seriously injured in a car accident, was on sick leave for eight months and thus lost his regular position. He then moved frequently in the Serbian league: 1998 to Proleter Zrenjanin , 1999 to Rudar Pljevlja, 2000 to Eporsid. Only in 2001 did he find a long-term new employer in Partizan Belgrade : In 2002, 2003 and 2004 he was elected Serbian champions and in 2002 and 2003 the best goalkeeper in the league. In 2004 he moved to IF Guif in Sweden in search of a new challenge , where he was also chosen as the league's best goalkeeper. After only one season he went to Denmark to join Viborg HK. There he was voted best goalkeeper in 2006 and won the Danish runner-up in 2007. In autumn 2006, Šijan had already signed a three-year contract from July 2007 at SG Flensburg-Handewitt , where he was to succeed Jan Holpert . After only one season he left Flensburg at his own request. From the 2008/09 season, Šijan played again in Viborg. In the summer of 2012, Šijan moved to league rivals Bjerringbro-Silkeborg . In the summer of 2014 he joined Mors-Thy Håndbold . In the 2016/17 season he is under contract with the Romanian club HC Dobrogea Sud Constanța.
Despite well-known competition such as Dejan Perić and Arpad Šterbik, Šijan has so far played 56 international matches for the Serbian men's handball team and the predecessor team from Serbia-Montenegro. In his country's only international success, the bronze medal at the 1999 World Cup , he probably did not take part due to the aftermath of his car accident.
