Primagas (spelling: PRIMAGAS) is one of the largest German liquefied gas suppliers based in Krefeld . In 2011, the medium-sized company achieved sales of around 300 million euros. Primagas is a joint venture between the founding family Aretz and the Dutch company SHV Energy.

Company profile

Primagas supplies private and commercial customers who are not connected to public gas pipeline networks with liquid gas. The fuel is made available on site in underground and above-ground tanks. In areas not supplied with natural gas, the energy supplier also operates supply networks that are fed from a central tank on site.

New fields of application are solar systems in combination with liquid gas. Primagas also cooperates with manufacturers of liquid gas-operated combined heat and power units and infrared heaters for heating halls. Primagas liquid gas is used in private households and in commercial operations such as hotels, restaurants and car paint shops. Municipal facilities such as schools and swimming pools also use the energy supply.

Other business areas include the sale of environmentally friendly LPG and LPG for forklifts.

Primagas has three regional centers in Krefeld , Dresden and Würzburg . A total of more than 230 employees work in the office and in the field, as well as over 3,000 sales partners in technical customer service.

The company is a partner in Transgas Liquid Gas Transport and Logistics GmbH & Co. KG.

Company history

Primagas was founded in 1950 by Helmut Aretz as "Propan-Butan-Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH" (PBG). Aretz initially used liquefied gas, which was still largely unknown at the time, in its own welding technology company. He recognized the potential of and expanded his sales to include bottled gas. PBG's turnover increased tenfold within six years. In 1960 the company started trading in small tanks for private liquid gas supply - a business area that is still Primagas' largest sales market today.

The company has been operating under its current name since 1964, with the participation of the French Primagaz SA. At the same time, Primagas expanded its sales network throughout Germany. Business developed positively, particularly in the area of full private supply: At the end of the 1980s, Primagas supplied 15,000 households and had a close-knit sales network. Since 1995 Primagas has owned a majority stake in the world's largest liquefied gas company, the Dutch SHV Holdings NV based in Utrecht . In the past few years, Primagas has expanded its range of products in order to win over tradespeople in particular to switch to liquid gas-operated heating systems. The tank business gained in importance, in the cylinder gas division it was the other way around. As a result, Primagas sold this business area in 2009.
