The Petergstamm ( Primula balbisii ) is a plant from the family of the Primrose family (Primulaceae). The clan previously considered a subspecies of Primula auricula , the well-known auricle , was separated as a species in 2005. Primula balbisii occurs in the Southern and Eastern Alps, in the Apennines, in Hungary, in the Southwest Carpathians and on the Balkan Peninsula.

features

Primula balbisii is an evergreen , perennial herbaceous plant . The mostly floured leaves are green, thin and do not shine when dry. The leaf blade is broadly obovate, the leaf margin is often serrated and, like the leaf surface, densely covered with 0.3 to 0.4 millimeter long glandular hairs. Flowering time is from May to June, the flower is dark yellow in color, it may or may not be fragrant. Fruit season is from June to August.

distribution

The distribution area of Primula balbisii extends from the southern and eastern Alps (Italy, Austria, Slovenia) to the Apennines and western Hungary. Another occurrence is found in the southwestern Carpathian Mountains (Romania). It is also given under various synonyms for Serbia, Croatia, Slovakia and France. Primula balbisii grows at altitudes between 250 and 3050 meters on rocky ground, occasionally on grassland; the species prefers basic, calcareous soils.

Systematics

The species was in 1817 by Johann Georg Christian Lehmann using a by himself collected, now lost copy firstdescribed and the Italian botanist Gioanni Battista Balbis dedicated, who already under the invalid name Primula ciliata had described. Further synonyms are Primula ciliata Moretti non cabinet , Primula hungarica Borb. , Primula auricula L. f. serratifolia Roch. and Primula crenata foot non Lam.

The species has not been recognized for a long time. Instead, it was assumed that it belonged to the species Primula auricula , the well-known auricle . It was not until 2005 that extensive investigations into morphological, geographical and molecular genetic properties split the auricles into two types, including Primula balbisii Borb.
