Prince Ea (born September 16, 1988 in St. Louis , Missouri , real name Richard Williams ) is an American spoken-word artist, poet and YouTuber . After graduating from the University of Missouri – St. Louis in anthropology , he initially pursued a career as a hip-hop artist. Inspired by artists like Immortal Technique and Canibus , he started and popularized the “Make SMART Cool” movement to promote values ​​such as intelligence , free thinking, unity and creativity in hip-hop music and culture.

In 2014, Prince Ea shifted his focus from music to producing engaging and inspiring spoken word films and content. These types of videos cover topics such as environmental protection , racism , work-life balance , spirituality , the school system, and more. He attributes his change of perspective to the inspiration of ancient wisdom texts such as Tao Te Ching and Bhagavad Gita .

Life

The youngest of three children, Prince Ea was born Richard Williams on September 16, 1988 in St. Louis, Missouri, and lived there all his life. He began his work under the stage name "Prince Ea" when he graduated from the University of Missouri - St. Louis with a degree in anthropology. The name "Prince Ea" comes from Sumerian mythology and means "The Prince of the Earth".

Prince Ea operates a YouTube channel (5.7 million subscribers), an Instagram account (3 million subscribers), a Twitter account (140,000 followers) and a Facebook account (16 million subscribers).

One of his best known videos is Dear Future Generations: Sorry , in which he wants to draw attention to what money has been made of the earth's resources.

Music career

In 2011, Prince Ea rapped for his own entertainment and produced some videos about it. These often ended up on the WorldStarHipHop website . At the end of 2008 Prince Ea made the mixtape "The Adolescence" available for free download. A few days later, he made an amateur video of himself and entered a Vibe magazine contest entitled "VIBE Verses". He was named Grand Champion of the VIBE Verses and received $ 5,000 worth of music recorders and a full-page article in Vibe magazine valued at $ 50.00. In 2009 he won a funk volume competition, which made him the first hip hop artist to be featured in Discover magazine .

“Make SMART Cool” movement

In 2009 Prince Ea, angry with the current state of the music industry, decided to start a social movement called "Make 'SMART' Cool" ( SMART is an acronym for Sophisticating Minds And Revolutionizing Thought ). criticism

Prince Ea has been criticized for frequently suggesting to his community in his videos to spend less time online, even though he himself uploads new posts to his social media accounts 10 to 20 times a day. He has also been criticized for putting his name under other people's quotes and posting them as his own on his Instagram page.
