Destiny Frasqueri
Destiny Nicole Frasqueri or Princess Nokia (born June 14, 1992 ) is an Afro- Nuyorican hip-hop and R&B musician from New York who also performed under the artist names Wavy Spice or Destiny . She also works with the New York hip hop group Ratking . She is considered a representative of the young genre queer rap .
Life
Frasqueri grew up in Spanish Harlem , the Bronx, and the Lower East Side in New York. She has a Nigerian and Puerto Rican background. The mother died when Frasqueri was nine years old. The girl grew up in changing foster families and projects. In her youth, Frasqueri preferred punk to hip-hop, according to her own statements she only found access to this genre as an adult: "I fell in love with hip-hop as an adult, not as a kid." She often skipped school, to study African American literature , Kemetism , and Santería rituals at home. Frasqueri describes himself as "Bruja" (Spanish for "witch") in the tradition of the Yoruba and Taíno . Another line of tradition in which she locates herself is the Black Harlem Renaissance .

Since 2012, Frasqueri has performed in the New York underground and on YouTube under the pseudonym Wavy Spice and produced club tracks such as Versace Hottie and Bitch, I'm Posh . In 2015 she released the R&B heavy album Honeysuckle under the name Destiny . In September 2016 she released the EP 1992 as Princess Nokia , named after the year she was born. In her songs, Frasqueri, who characterizes herself as “old school”, addresses her mixed-race origins and queer issues. Controversy
In 2017 Frasqueri went on tour in Europe. At a concert in Cambridge , she got off the stage and beat and insulted a viewer who is said to have insulted her sexistically, which he denied afterwards.
She caused further controversy with her song Bart Simpson , in which she raps the line "See, I know my money got raised by the jews.", Which was interpreted as picking up on an anti-Semitic stereotype. In interviews, Frasqueri stated that she grew up partly in a Jewish family and had Jewish uncles and aunts: “I was raised by rich Jews. I don't understand why people think this is anti-Semitic. In fact, it's actually pro-Jewish. I went to school with Jewish children and went to the Hebrew summer camp for ten years. My aunts and uncles were wealthy Jews. When I say I'm a New York Puerto Rican, that's the same reference. So that's a misunderstanding. ”In March 2017, she canceled a planned festival appearance in Israel after the Boycot, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) initiative put her under pressure. The initiative calls for a boycott of Israel and Israeli products.
