The Prinses Máxima is a Dutch training ship that is used in conjunction with the Prinses Amalia for training inland navigation.

Construction and use

The hulls of the two ships were built by the Turnu Severin Shipyard in Romania and brought to the Netherlands via the Main-Danube Canal . It was then completed at the Smits shipyard in Krimpen aan de Lek . Inland shipping companies also contributed to the construction costs of 3.6 million euros.

The ships entered service on February 17, 2006. They are named after Máxima of the Netherlands and Amalia van Oranje . The coupling association is used by the Maritime College IJmuiden and the Maritime Academie Harlingen , two schools of the Dunamare Onderwijsgroep . The Prinses Máxima also makes longer training trips on the Rhine and in the ARA area ( Amsterdam - Rotterdam - Antwerp ).

The motor ship has air-conditioned accommodation for 24 students and 4 crew members. The classroom is also used as a trade fair . The further equipment of the ship consists of:

  • 2 main engines Caterpillar 3406 C each 300 kW on 2 four-blade screws, 1,200 mm
  • 2 diesel generators each 107.5 kVA, Cummins 6BT5.9
  • 1 diesel generator 66 kVA, Cummins 4BT3.9 G4
  • 1 auxiliary generator 15 kVA, Hatz 2L41C
  • 2 bow thrusters , Cummins M 11G2, 283 kW each
  • Hydraulic rowing machine with four oars
  • 2 JMA 6o9 LCD -flow radars , GPS - Compass , double autopilot
  • In the height-adjustable navigation bridge , all operating and monitoring devices are duplicated so that the instructor can monitor the student.

The 30.0 m long and 8.0 m wide lighter displaces 388 tons. It is designed as a tanker with all the necessary equipment for loading and unloading , and the bunker mast can also be used as a ship crane . The Prinses Amalia is equipped with its own classroom for training in the port . Pushed by the Prinses Máxima , the future inland waterway skippers learn how to operate a coupling formation.
