history

The history of the Lasser private brewery began in 1850 when the brewer Friedrich W. Enderlin from Efringen-Kirchen built a brewery at the foot of the Hünerberg. That Enderlins brewery was sold to the master cooper Joseph Jakob Vortisch in the same year. In 1858 the brewery became the property of JJ Gether-Dietschy, who brought Adam Lasser , the chief brewer of the Basler Cardinal Brewery, to Lörrach, to whom he transferred the management of his brewery.

Since Adam Lasser originally comes from Bavaria, he was still considered a foreigner in Lörrach at that time and as such had to obtain the right to brew and serve beer. This right was granted to him by the mayor and the local council. In 1861 his application for naturalization was granted so that in 1864 he was able to buy the brewery himself.

When Adam Lasser died in 1865 at the age of 50, his brother Wolfgang Lasser, who was also the head brewer, continued his life's work. In the summer of 1869, Wolfgang Lasser opened a cellar in a rock cellar at the foot of the skull mountain, in which seven large tables offered space for around a hundred people. When Wolfgang Lasser died in 1880, his wife Karoline Lasser initially ran the company until her death in 1896, but she was later replaced by her son Carl Adam.

At the turn of the century, Adam Lasser's brewing kettle with 17 hectoliters was replaced by one with 150 hectoliters, increasing the annual production from 2,500 hl to 6,000 hl. Production, which fell sharply during the two world wars, rose again quickly after 1945 and ensured the company's survival.

When Carl Adam Lasser died in 1934, the management passed to his son Karl Lasser, who at the age of 26 and graduated as a master brewer from the Weihenstephan Brewery University was prepared for the management of the company and managed it until 1989. In addition to beer, the Lasser brewery's range was expanded in 1954 to include the non-alcoholic Libella branded drinks .

In 1989 Dorothee Walter, geb. Lasser, Karl Lasser's daughter, the commercial director of the brewery. Since 2000, responsibility has been with the sixth generation Lasser, the son Andreas Walter, who is trained as a master brewer and industrial engineer.

Currently (2017) the brewery has an annual output of approx. 70,000 hl and is operated by almost 50 employees in administration, shipping, vehicle fleet and brewery.

Since 2004, the Lasser brewery has been working closely with the Swiss Fischerstube brewery in Basel, on whose behalf the brewery is brewed and bottled exclusively for the Swiss market.

Since 2007 as one of the first breweries in Baden-Württemberg also certified according to the International Food Standard at a "higher level", and from 2008 to 2014 consistently recognized again.
