The Fichtwalddorf Proßmarke, where Bronze Age finds indicate a much earlier settlement, was first mentioned in 1376 as a "Provismarke". Presumably it got its place name from its location near the border to the Propstei Schlieben. Severe destruction in the place is known from the years 1762, 1765 and 1809.

As recently as 1980, the remains of a fortified post mill could be found at Proßmarke . A windmill was found in the village as early as 1753, and a second one for 1791. Both mills were still available in files from 1925/26.

On December 31, 2001, Proßmarke merged with the neighboring community of Hohenbucko.
