church

The place was first mentioned in 1346 in the Meißner diocese register as Hoenbockaw . In 1419 the place is called Buckow bei Schlieben . The name is a Sorbian - German mixture: Hohen- because located on a hill, -bucko (from Bukowina) means red beech , red beech forest.

Hohenbucko was on an old trade route. The residents lived from agriculture and timber industry. Around 1512 the Schenk von Landsberg led robbery raids against the village and had it burned down. The residents of Hohenbucko also suffered many atrocities during the Thirty Years' War , alternating between imperial (1631) and Swedish (1637) troops. In 1634 the plague raged in the village.

Hohenbucko and Proßmarke belonged to the Schweinitz district in the Prussian province of Saxony since 1816 and to the Herzberg district in the GDR district of Cottbus from 1952 . Since 1993, the places have been in the Elbe-Elster district of Brandenburg.

On December 31, 2001, the new community Hohenbucko was formed from the communities Hohenbucko and Proßmarke.
