Merzdorf is a municipality in the Elbe-Elster district in the south of Brandenburg . It belongs to the Schradenland office based in the municipality of Val Gardena .
geography
Merzdorf is the smallest of the four Schradenland communities and is located in the southeastern part of the Elbe-Elster district in the immediate vicinity of the city of Elsterwerda . The Seifertsmühl residential area belongs to Merzdorf .
history
Merzdorf, formerly also called Mertensdorf, was first mentioned in 1406 as Mertinsdorff. The name means village of Martin / Mertin.
In 1580, the manor in Merzdorf, which was originally owned by the von Köckritz family , was sold to Mr Pflugk zu Frauenhain. In 1610 it came into the possession of the von Milckau family , in 1703 it was acquired by Carl Gottfried Bose. Other owners were Hans Ramanus von Kirchbach (1703–1708), Heinrich Ehrenfried von Biesenroth (1708), Philipp Heinrich von Witzleben (1708–1708) and then the Schmidt family, who kept the estate until 1819. Then Karl Oberweg bought it, but in 1844 he sold it to Baron von Rochow.
The re-parish of Val Gardena requested in 1725 was rejected. Ecclesiastically, Merzdorf and Seifertsmühl belonged to the Frauenhain five kilometers away . The children of Merzdorf and Seifertsmühl were taught by two teachers in Merzdorf.
In 1827 the maintenance plans were distributed among the 27 owners. For the use of wood in the Schradenwald , each Hüfner received 9½ acres of land in the Merzdorfer Busch when these rights were redeemed . There were major fires in 1832 and 1833.
On January 1, 1935, the neighboring Seifertsmühl was incorporated into Merzdorf. The Vorwerk Karlsborn was also called half a mile because it is just as far from Merzdorf.
Merzdorf has belonged to the Liebenwerda district in the province of Brandenburg since 1816 and to the Bad Liebenwerda district in the GDR district of Cottbus from 1952 . The community has been in the Elbe-Elster district in Brandenburg since 1993
