RosettaNet
RosettaNet is a non-profit consortium of more than 600 companies worldwide, primarily from the areas of information technology , electronic components and semiconductor manufacturing, logistics, telecommunications and services. The aim is to standardize data transmission interfaces in mutual electronic data exchange .
RosettaNet is a subsidiary of GS1 US, the former Uniform Code Council (UCC), and has offices in the USA, Malaysia, Europe, Japan, Taiwan, China, Singapore, Thailand and Australia.
As part of the RosettaNet organization, cross-sector and disclosed communication and process procedures for the exchange of business documents between the users' IT systems via electronic data exchange are agreed and standardized among user groups and members in order to ensure that data exchange between suppliers and customers is as free as possible from media breaks and data conversion problems and to be able to process more cost-effectively, faster and more precisely ( B2B ). The main focus is on the areas of logistics and production, but the exchange of product and material data and the handling of service processes are also taken into account.
field of use
The use of the RosettaNet standards is particularly widespread in the USA due to the structure of its founding members , but is also supported by the governments of the Asian countries. In Europe it is less used due to the widespread use of EDIFACT .
RosettaNet standards
Unlike organizations that focus on implementing proprietary solutions, RosettaNet optimizes existing open e-business standards, guidelines and specifications for cross-platform applications and network communications. RosettaNet defines e-business concepts (file formats, procedural rules, implementation specifications, etc.) and thus develops standards to promote the compatibility of business processes . RosettaNet is based on open XML standards.
Partner Interface Processes (PIPs)
RosettaNet PIPs are specialized system-to-system XML-based dialogs that define business processes between partners in a value chain. Each PIP comprises a technical specification based on the "RosettaNet Implementation Framework (RNIF)", a message guideline document with a PIP-specific version of the Business Dictionary and an XML message guideline document that is required for implementation provides the necessary models and documents.
The various PIPs are divided into clusters (areas), each of which covers a specific business process area.
- Cluster 0 RosettaNet Support / Support for RosettaNet
- Cluster 1 Partner Product and Service Review /
- Cluster 2 Product Information / Product Information
- Cluster 3 order management / ordering
- Cluster 4 inventory management / inventory management
- Cluster 5 Marketing Information Management /
- Cluster 6: Service and Support / Repair and Support
- Cluster 7: Manufacturing
The actual PIP name results from the clusters and the further subdivision
z. B. PIP 3A4 (request an order)
- 3 → Cluster 3
- A → Quote and Order Entry
- 4 → Request Purchase Order
European RosettaNet User Group
EDIFICE is the European user group for B2B standards in the high-tech industry.
Miscellaneous
RosettaNet goes back to an initiative of American companies in the 1990s. The name is based on the Rosetta stone , which formed the key to understanding the Egyptian hieroglyphs , comparable to the various file formats in which information is stored on different computer platforms and software products in different companies.
Dictionaries
- Business Dictionary
- As part of the development of RosettaNet standards, business attributes are determined in order to determine transactions between trading partners. The Business Dictionary serves as a central reference and reference work for other standard documents.
- IT Technical Dictionary (ITTD)
- The ITTD offers a uniform language for the definition of IT products.
- EC Technical Dictionary (ECTD)
- The ECTD is the counterpart of the ITTD for electronic components (EC supply chain). It enables the definition of such products.
- RosettaNet Implementation Framework (RNIF)
- As an open general application network, the RNIF provides general exchange protocols for implementing RosettaNet standards. The RNIF defines the exchange of information between the servers of trading partners using HTML / XML.
