This legendary figure, originally cast from bronze and unveiled on the village green on May 1, 2005 , was stolen in November 2012. The figure symbolizes a legend known in Lusatia about the black woman , whose emaciated and ugly appearance is said to have driven the Swedes out of the town in the Thirty Years War . The landmark of the small town, which had cost 8,500 euros to manufacture  , could only be recognized by its footprints. - The theft was not solved, but a short time later a copy made of polyester was found in the same place . This figure was damaged by an arson attack in December 2014. Apparently, some residents find the negatively connoted subject of a black woman unsuitable for the location or the depiction is simply too ugly, because already in January 2018 one prong of the fork was broken off and the second bent. An appraisal should determine the amount of damage, after which the municipality decides whether another renewal should be carried out.

Massen owns an extensive commercial and industrial park, which is located directly on Bundesstraße 96 . INTIER produces plastic and interior parts for numerous car manufacturers such as BMW . Production started in March 2007 with 48 employees. Up to 200 employees will work here in the future.

As part of the partial reactivation of the so-called Schippchenbahn , a stop was set up next to the old train station .
