location

Probfeld is located on the south-eastern edge of the former Donaumoos fen, near the village of Pobenhausen , which is already outside the swamp , in the Ingolstadt region . The place is crossed by the connecting road from Pobenhausen to Lichtenau and the Ingolstadt – Augsburg railway line . The former train station of Pobenhausen is in the local area. It is 20 km to the district town of Neuburg an der Donau and 15 km to Ingolstadt.

history

The local area of Probfeld was untouched moorland until 1790 in the undeveloped and inaccessible largest low moor in southern Germany, the Donaumoos. In the years that followed, the new ruler, Elector Karl Theodor , from Mannheim, had the Donaumoos drained and cultivated into arable land. The electoral forest chamber director Johann Peter Kling , who also came from the Palatinate and was appointed to the Munich court by Karl Theodor, played an important role in the cultivation and settlement of the newly won cultural area .

However, the latter not only accepted this task as a government official from the green table, but also acquired 60 days of drained peatland himself at his own expense and shortly afterwards another 40 days . He began to carry out cultivation experiments on his own land in order to give the colonists an example and assistance in the practical agricultural use of the newly won cultivated land.

In 1802 he built a farm as a test farm on the land he had acquired and named it Probfeld . Today the street name Klingbauernhof reminds of the founder of the settlement.

On May 1, 1978, Probfeld came together with Pobenhausen as a result of the regional reform in Bavaria to the municipality of Karlskron.

economy

A logistics company is located in the village, which mainly deals with the storage and handling of new automobiles for Audi AG , which is based in neighboring Ingolstadt .

Agriculture, which used to be the only source of income, now plays a subordinate role. It is now only operated full-time by a few residents. A large part of the population commutes and is mainly employed in industrial companies in the Ingolstadt economic region.
