Markus Tannheimer

Markus Tannheimer (born July 27, 1969 in Sonthofen ) is a German doctor and alpinist .

Life

Tannheimer grew up in Sonthofen in the Allgäu . On June 1, 1989, he joined the mountain medical battalion 8 in Kempten (Allgäu) as a medical officer candidate . From April 23, 1997 to July 31, 1999 he was employed in the surgery department in the Bundeswehr hospital in Ulm (BWK Ulm). He completed his dissertation with the title: Hypoxemia and altitude symptoms during the German-Pakistani research expedition to Broad Peak on May 23, 1997 with the rating magna cum laude . After his time with BWK Ulm, he took up the position as a troop doctor with the Mountain Infantry Battalion 233 in Mittenwald . Subsequently, until May 1, 2002, he was a troop doctor at the Mittenwald Mountain and Winter Combat School . Then the senior staff doctor returned to the BWK Ulm in the surgery department.

Since January 1st, 2009 he has been a senior physician for general, visceral and thoracic surgery. Tannheimer has additional training as a lone fighter (best in course, October 3, 1991) and as a mountain guide (April 8, 2001). He is married and has three children.

Expeditions and first ascents

Scientific awards

Tannheimer received two scientific prizes from the German Society for Military Medicine and Military Pharmacy:

  • Hans-Hartwig-Clasen-Förderpreis 2002 for pulse oximetric exercise test to assess individual altitude acclimatization and
  • Paul Schürmann Prize 2009 for Asymmetrical Dimethylarginine enables soldiers to be identified who are susceptible to altitude sickness .
