Prometea

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prometea (born May 28, 2003 in Cremona ) is a female domestic horse and the first cloned horse in the world.

The Haflinger - mare who fought out the foal was also supplier of the genetic material . It was taken from her skin and fused with an enucleated egg . 327 further attempts by Cesare Galli's research team from the Laboratory of Reproductive Technology in Cremona failed. Also, 517 additional experiments with the DNA of an Arab - stallion were unsuccessful.

The cloning of racing horses and sport horses should make it possible to pass on the genetic make-up of castrated horses to later generations. In 2005 a cloned racehorse was born for the first time. The genetic material comes from Pieraz , a long distance racing horse . Cloned horses are not allowed to participate in conventional horse races. Even ET , the success of the horse show jumper Hugo Simon , was successfully cloned. The colt was born in 2006 and should be registered in a Belgian stud book.

Adolfo Cambiaso cloned his polo horse Aiken Cura in 2009 and, together with the La Dolfina team, won the Argentine Open in 2016 on six clones of his successful mare Cuartetera .

Prometea gave birth to a colt named Pegaso on March 17th, 2008 .
