Przemysław Olszewski (born June 23, 1913 in Kraków , † December 16, 1972 in Olsztyn ) was a Polish professor at the Olsztyn College of Agriculture and Technology and a limnologist .

He was the son of the artist and art teacher Bronisław Olszewski and his wife and teacher Stanisława. He went to high school in his birthplace Kraków and graduated in 1931. Then studied at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the Jagiellonian University . From the beginning, his scientific interest was in the direction of fishing and maritime contexts. He took courses in the limnological hydrobiological station at Wigry and at the oceanographic station in Hel . After completing his master's degree with a thesis on the Tatra Lakes in 1935, he continued to work on research in this field, now as an assistant in the Department of Fisheries at the Jagiellonian University. In 1946 he received his doctorate there.

In 1951 he moved to Giżycko and a few months later to Olsztyn, where he worked at the Institute of Fisheries at the Agricultural College . He took over the management of the university's hydrochemistry department, which was later transformed into the limnology department. From 1956 he was associate professor, full professor since 1965. From 1958–1960 he was dean of the Faculty of Fisheries. During this time, he took on the so-called Kortowo experiment of the hydrology of Lake Kortowo, which at that time belonged to water category 3. This lake, which is up to 17 meters deep, threatened to tip over due to eutrophication . Between 1955 and 1974 it was possible to rehabilitate the lake with the help of the Olszewski pipe developed by Olszewski . To do this, he first installed a wooden, 180-meter-long pipe through the lake.

After moving a large part of the department to Szczecin, he stayed in Olsztyn at the agricultural college in 1966 and worked from 1967 to 1969 as the deputy dean of the inland fisheries department. In 1970 he helped to set up the new department of water protection and inland fisheries at the Olsztyn University, at that time the only one of its kind in Europe. For many years he was a member of the Academic Senate and from 1954 he was the first chairman of the editorial board of the Scientific Bulletin of the Olsztyn University.

Przemysław Olszewski was the author of many publications on limnology, hydrochemistry and water protection. Among other things, he discussed problems with the pollution of lakes in the programs of the Polish Radio . His students highlighted him as a gifted teacher who was able to communicate complex issues in simple language. He is buried in the city cemetery in Olsztyn.
