history

Wissenrode near Schweidnitz (map from 1645, facing east)

Weizenrodau, initially called Weisinrod or Wisyngerode , was founded in 1243 under German law. The place was the combing village of Schweidnitz. It was acquired by the city in 9 shares between 1331 and 1590. It was named after the place of origin from which the ancestors of Lukas Watzenrode the Elder (1400–1462, citizen and trader in Thorn) and Lucas Watzenrode (1447–1512, Prince-Bishop of Warmia) came.

The place had a parish church since the 13th century. With the Reformation it became Protestant and in 1636 it was returned to the Catholics. Until 1773 the church belonged to the Jesuits. Since 1654, Weizenrodau was evangelical to the Friedenskirche Schweidnitz . Up until the end of the 18th century there was a chapel on the so-called Pfarrberge , which supposedly kept the coffin of the Duke of Lauenburg, who died in the battle between Groß Märzfdorf and Stephanshain in 1642.

After the first Silesian War, Weizenrodau fell to Prussia and was incorporated into the Schweidnitz district. In 1785 the place had 1 parish church, 2 schoolhouses, 1 fiefdom, 28 farmers, 17 gardeners, 16 cottagers, 1 water mill and 424 residents. With the cultivation of sugar beets, there was a sugar factory in Weizenrodau since the beginning of the 19th century. In 1834 a fire destroyed large parts of Weizenrodau. A war memorial was erected in 1885.

When the Soviet troops and the Polish administration took over in 1945, Weizenrodau was renamed Pszenno (Polish: wheat). The residents were expelled and replaced by Poles . The former Pszenno station is on the Wrocław – Jedlina – Zdrój railway line .
