Pterocarpus santalinoides is a species of plant from the subfamily of the Schmetterlingsblütler (Faboideae) within the family of the Leguminosae (Fabaceae).

In pterocarpus santalinoides is a tree up to 50 cm reached, the stature heights of up to 15 meters and trunk diameter of. The gray-brown bark is red when cut. The alternate leaves are pinnate unpaired, hairless and up to 25 cm long.

The axillary, racemose inflorescences are up to 20 cm long. The zygomorphic flowers are bright yellow to orange in color. The egg-shaped to circular legumes are flat, warty and winged on the edge. They only contain a single seed.

Spread and endangerment

Pterocarpus santalinoides is widespread on sandy or moist soils along rivers in the Sudan and Guinea zones in tropical Africa , but also in tropical America .

It is rated in the IUCN Red List as “Least Concern” (LC) = “not at risk”.
