Ptilium is a genus of moss from the order of the Hypnales .
features
The stems of the gametophytes are very regularly pinnate-like to feather-like. They form dainty, broadly lanceolate fronds that resemble ostrich feathers. The leaflets are very wrinkled and not hollow.
Systematics
The genus is part of the Hypnaceae family . It consists of only two types:
- Ptilium crista-castrensis occurs in the northern hemisphere, also in Central Europe.
- The second species is native to the Caribbean.
