Puccinia brachytela is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is an endoparasite of the sunflower family Otopappus verbesinoides . Symptoms of the infestation by the species are rust spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. She is endemic to Costa Rica .

Macroscopic features
Puccinia brachytela can only be recognized with the naked eye by means of the spore beds protruding on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.
Microscopic features
The mycelium of Puccinia brachytela grows as with all Puccinia TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. Their spermogonia and aecia are not yet known. The uredia of the mushroom have not yet been described. Their light yellow-brown uredospores are 23–26 × 19–20 µm in size, ellipsoidal to ovoid-ellipsoidal and spiky. The parts of the species growing underneath the leaves are dark cinnamon-brown, compact and uncovered. The golden-brown teliospores are two-celled, usually broad to oblong ellipsoid and 28–35 × 22–26 µm in size.

The known distribution area of Puccinia brachytela only includes Costa Rica .
ecology
The host plant of Puccinia brachytela is Otopappus verbesinoides . The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species goes through a development cycle of which only Telien and Uredien and their host are known so far; Spermogonia and Aecien could not be assigned to her.
