Puccinia jaliscana is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is an endoparasite of the daisy family Porophyllum holwayanum and Porophyllum nutans . Symptoms of the infestation by the species are rust spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. She is endemic to Mexico .

features

Macroscopic features

Puccinia jaliscana can only be recognized with the naked eye by means of the spore beds protruding on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.

Microscopic features

The mycelium of Puccinia jaliscana grows as with all Puccinia TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. Their spermogonia and aecia are unknown. The uredia of the fungus growing on the underside of the host leaves are yellowish. Their light yellowish uredospores are 20–23 × 17–20 µm in size, mostly broad ellipsoidal and spiky. The bilateral growing parts of the species are black-brown, powdery and uncovered. The dark chestnut-brown teliospores are two-celled, usually broadly ellipsoidal, wrinkled and 36–44 × 26–33 µm in size. Their stem is colorless and up to 90 µm long.

distribution

The known distribution area of Puccinia jaliscana includes the Mexican states of Jalisco and México .

ecology

The host plants of Puccinia jaliscana are Porophyllum holwayanum and P. nutans . The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species goes through a macrocyclical development cycle , of which only Telien and Uredien and their host are known so far; Spermogonia and Aecien could not be assigned to her.
