Puccinia perplexans is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is an endoparasite of buttercups and foxtail grasses . Symptoms of infestation by the species are yellow spots of rust and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. The distribution area includes the Middle East and Europe .

features

Puccinia perplexans can only be recognized with the naked eye by the spore beds protruding on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown or blackish spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.

The mycelium of Puccinia perplexans grows as with all Puccinia TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. Your pyknia are spherical and sunken. The aecia of the species grow in small, round to elongated groups. They have polyhedral to spherical or ellipsoidal aecidiospores 18–26 × 15–20  µm , which are colorless and warty. The uredia are round to oblong. Their uredospores are spherical to oval, 19–35 × 14–25 µm in size and spiky. The parts of the kind are point or line-shaped, shiny black and covered. The teleutospores are two-celled, variably shaped and 35–60 × 14–23 µm in size. They are brownish, their stems are firm and short.

distribution

Puccinia perplexans has a distribution area that extends over Europe and the Middle East .

ecology

The host plants of Puccinia perplexans are as Haplont buttercups ( Ranunculus spp.) And foxtail grasses ( Alopecurus spp.) For the dikaryote . The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species has a development cycle with pycnias, uredia, telia and aecidia.

In Europe, the mushroom uses the sharp buttercup or the meadow foxtail as hosts. The occurrence of Puccinia perplexans seems to be climatic, but can be influenced by the cultivation, especially mulching .
