Pudding Mill Lane Station

Pudding Mill Lane is a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station in the London Borough of Newham . It is located on the border of the Travelcard tariff zones 2 and 3, on Pudding Mill Lane in the Stratford district . The station opens up an industrial and commercial area south of the Olympic Park .

history

Central platform

The single-track DLR line in this section has been in operation since August 31, 1987, but the station was only built later and opened on January 15, 1996. Previously there was only a turnout here . The station name comes from the Pudding Mill River , a small tributary of the Lea that belongs to the Bow Back Rivers . There used to be a watermill there , which is said to have been shaped like a pudding . When all other platforms on the Stratford branch line were extended to accommodate three-car trains, this measure was omitted in the Pudding Mill Lane station. Passengers can only enter or leave two cars here, while the doors of the third car remain closed. The reason for this is the planned complete new building (see below).

During the 2012 Olympics and the 2012 Summer Paralympics , Pudding Mill Lane was closed despite its proximity to the Olympic Park, as the station was too small to handle the expected crowd.

laying

The eastern portal of the central S-Bahn tunnel of the Crossrail railway project would have been at the location of the Pudding Mill Lane station. It therefore had to be replaced and was rebuilt on a nearby viaduct and opened in 2014. This measure also made it possible to expand the DLR line to double lanes.
