Puerto de Mogán is a port and holiday resort in the south of the island of Gran Canaria . The settlement was built around the existing small port of the village of Mogán , 12 kilometers inland, and belongs to the municipality of Mogán of the same name .

Puerto de Mogán was created in the 1980s based on a design by Raphael Neville . The place is sometimes referred to as "Little Venice" or the " Venice of the South" due to some canals that lead from the port into the town . The numerous small streets that run through the place contribute to the appearance. With the growing importance of tourism, a lot has been built and efforts have been made to retain some of the original charm through postmodern architecture. The Gran Canarian government has banned the building of houses in Puerto de Mogán that are more than two stories high. The former fishing village has largely been preserved in its origins despite tourism and the new part is not immediately noticeable as such.

The multi-storey hotel castles and shopping centers were built a few kilometers away, but partly within sight of the port. The main part of the man-made harbor is taken up by the marina with its attached boat repair yard. The possibility of having your boat taken out of the water there and renting a place to repair and maintain it yourself is popular. In the back of the harbor is the fishing port with some smaller local fishing boats. Ferries from the shipping companies Líneas Salmón and Blue Bird dock at high speed from Puerto Rico and Arguineguín . One-hour trips to explore the underwater world can be made from the end of the pier in a diving boat. Around the harbor, in addition to fish (some from local fishermen), Central European dishes and fast food are also offered in the restaurants.
Puerto de Mogán is fully developed for tourism. An artificial beach with subtle hotel complexes was created directly adjacent. Buses arrive regularly from the neighboring tourist centers. The part of the village around the harbor is an apartment complex that belongs to a hotel. A weekly market takes place on the street in front of it every Friday.
A place has established itself as a popular meeting point for the locals, where the seated sculpture of the fruit seller Elías Hernández García is installed on one of the many stone benches next to a commemorative plaque. According to the plaque, it was perceived as an inseparable part of the square with its picturesque appearance during its lifetime. The memorial plaque also indirectly reveals that there was a lively square long before the town was founded, in the 1970s.
traffic
From Las Palmas you can reach Puerto de Mogán directly by driving the GC-1 motorway to its end (Puerto de Mogán exit). The highway extension to Puerto de Mogán was completed in March 2013. In the meantime, the island expressway with a tunnel has also led close to the town. The further rounding of the island along the western cliffs to the north or clockwise towards Agaete is only possible on small roads from Puerto Mogán and Mogán. Work is already underway to close the gap on the island's expressway (as of autumn 2015), but the financial problems of the Spanish state and the construction industry will delay closing the gap for years. The rest of the traffic near the western cliffs takes place from Mogán on a relatively narrow and winding pass road, which - in the section between the next larger valley in La Aldea de San Nicolás and Agaete - offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic in some places and, if visibility conditions are good, also the neighboring island of Tenerife and the volcano Pico de Teide offers.
In addition, the place can be reached by numerous bus lines or the ferry connections mentioned.
