The pumping station Kaiserswerth was 1928 built and served water supply from Dusseldorf - Kaiserswerth . Today the pumping station is no longer in operation, but was protected as a monument in 1997 .

location

The building is located on Herbert-Eulenberg-Weg, north of the historic city center of Kaiserswerth. The Rhine runs west of the building , from which the building is separated by a dike . The pumping station is located in a water protection area .

Status

Perspective from below the dike

Today the building is in poor condition and smeared with numerous graffiti . Originally the demolition of the pumping station was planned, but this was thwarted by the registration of the building as a monument on December 23, 1997. As part of dike work in 2009, the basement of the building was reinforced for flood protection reasons . In addition, repair work was carried out on the ailing roof of the monument.

use

The appearance of the building and the possibilities for future use are always the subject of local politics . In July 2019, the district council rejected an application to use the pumping station as a guest house. Due to the location of the building in a water protection area and its status as a monument, commercial use or fundamental renovation of the building is hardly feasible.
