Poonch or punch ( Urdu ضلع پونچھ) is one of eight districts in Asad Kashmir , Pakistan . The district borders on the Indian district of Punch , from which it was separated in 1948. The administrative seat of the district is Rawalakot .
history
From the end of the 7th century until 1837, Punch was ruled by the Rajas of Loran. Then it came under the rule of Raja Faiztalab Khan of Rajuri, who received it from the Punjab government . In 1848 it came under the rule of Maharaja Gulab Singh . Until then, it was considered a district of Lahore . Gulab Singh subordinated Chibal, Punch and other areas to Jawaharr Singh and Moiti Singh. The ruler of Punch was not allowed to take any administrative measures without the consent of the ruler of Kashmir . The Raja of Punch had to present a horse with a golden harness to the Maharaja of Kashmir .
In 1948, during the First Kashmir War , Punch was divided.
